Food for thought....

I was driving home from the Dr with one of the kids last Friday and I was cruising along just listening to the radio when an announcement from the Justice Dept came on the radio. It was talking about the dangers of home invasions and how to possibly avoid them ect... they suggested different methods to protect your self from intruders, things like alarms, bars on windows, not opening the doors...and then at the end said perhaps getting a dog....
Well, I am wondering at that moment in my car, like where the heck have I been that it is now so dangerous to live here that our government is now telling us how to protect ourselves over the radio...I really at that moment felt like I was in another country. It really didn't feel good to me at all. I, in the past possibly could have been a little paranoid about that type of thing but now feel justified ! After all our government is now paranoid for us ...YIKES...and I live in the middle of no where. So, all you people who live in the city , look out for your broadcast it may be like Orson Wells " End of the World".
Also, same trip, same station they talked about the three earth quakes that occured just south of me near Conway Arkansas. They were mild but a week before that there had been two other ones...Now I have lived here for 10 yrs and not heard of any quakes so what the heck is going on? Well, I looked it up on a site for world wide earth quake activity...Pretty interesting , we were on there twice pretty recently. I can tell you where not to live or visit, that is Chili they have activity all the time.
I just wanted to give folks some food for thought. Surely I am not the only one wondering what the heck is going on.
PS- we (Arkansas) have our own earthquake center...go figure...
til next time...

I didn't hear that broadcast. I think the media is responsible for the culture of fear we live with here in the US. I mean, all you hear about on the news is the awful stuff, which really happens to so few people that it is statistically practically impossible that it will happen to you (home invasion, mugging, child snatching - which is almost always a relative). The media no longer reports news, they create it. Oh well. I suppose our government has to warn us about something to take our minds off what an awful job they do! We've actually had an earthquake in Ohio, too! Kathy
